Loot triage / protect irreversible value

Keep, Sell, or Synthesize Gear in War of Genesis: Idle Loot

A reversible decision checklist for War of Genesis gear, synthesis and market choices while launch-week rates and values remain uncertain.

Short answer

Keep the item when you cannot identify its rarity, class use, replacement or market state. Synthesize only a verified matching set you can afford to lose. Sell only after checking that the item is not your best viable piece, a class-switch fallback or a needed input. Price and success-rate guesses do not belong in the decision.

CAUTION / Synthesis and selling can remove items permanently.

CAUTION / The site does not publish a success-rate table because no official or independently reproduced rate source was available.

Safe route

Do this in order

  1. Identify the exact item, rarity color, class and equipped alternatives.
  2. Keep one usable loadout and one class-switch fallback before using duplicates.
  3. Confirm the synthesis screen shows the expected matching inputs and output state.
  4. Compare the item’s actual Market state without assuming the asking price is a completed sale.
  5. Act only when the loss is acceptable; otherwise mark the item hold and revisit later.

The safest default is a named hold

A new loot game trains players to clear inventory quickly, but War of Genesis links equipment to progression, class experiments, synthesis and a real Steam Market. That makes a mistaken deletion or sale more expensive than a crowded slot. The safest default for an uncertain piece is not “keep everything forever.” It is a named hold: keep the item until one missing fact is resolved.

Name the reason: unknown rarity, no replacement, possible class switch, synthesis input, or market delivery still pending. A named hold can be reviewed. A vague pile cannot. Once you have a stable equipped set and understand the item labels, duplicates become easier to classify without pretending that every color or stat roll has a universal value.

Synthesize only a controlled batch

One Steam reply reports that six matching items were enough to synthesize and warns that green and blue can be visually confused. That is a useful interface warning, but it remains a single player report. Before confirming, read the input slots rather than relying on a quick color glance. If the screen exposes a success rate or result preview, treat the visible client text as the current state and save it with the date.

Do not infer a hidden rate from a few successes or failures. Random outcomes are noisy, and community claims such as “80% feels like 20%” do not establish the actual probability. A reliable rate would require official documentation or a sufficiently large, reproducible sample with patch, input type and failures recorded. Until then, the only honest advice is to decide whether you can afford the displayed risk.

Market price is not item value

A listing shows what someone asks, not necessarily what another player paid. Thin markets can display one extreme offer without meaningful demand. Before selling, check whether comparable items actually exist, whether their random stats differ, and whether you can replace the item if your class plan changes. The official store promises trading but does not promise profit.

Separate three values: progression value on your account, option value for another class or future patch, and current market value. The highest asking price may still lose to progression value if the sale creates a wall. Conversely, a duplicate with no use may be a reasonable listing even if it is not rare. This site does not provide investment or earnings promises.

A four-bucket inventory routine

Sort only enough to keep farming safely: equipped, fallback, controlled synthesis batch, and review later. Do not put a purchased item into synthesis until delivery and ownership are clear. Do not list the only working weapon for a class you plan to test. If the interface or patch changes, reclassify the affected bucket rather than refreshing the date on every item.

The official roadmap says economy, balance and convenience work will continue through Early Access. That makes compact rules more durable than a launch-day spreadsheet. The rules here survive because they manage uncertainty and reversibility; exact item values will need stronger evidence before they belong on a public page.

  • Equipped: current known-good loadout
  • Fallback: another class or mode
  • Synthesis batch: verified matching items you can lose
  • Review later: one specific missing fact
Questions

Quick answers

How many items are needed for synthesis?

One current Steam reply reports six matching items. The site has not independently reproduced that number, so confirm the current synthesis screen before acting.

What is the synthesis success rate?

Unknown from reliable public evidence. Use the rate shown in your current client, if any, and do not infer a global rate from a small sample.

Should I sell valuable-looking drops?

Only after checking replacement, class fallback, synthesis use and actual market state. A listing price alone does not prove a sale or profit.
